History
The suburb name of Saint James is named after the London park of that name, which in turn commemorates Saint James the apostle. The name was proposed by the Canning Road Board, and was approved in 1957. Many of the streets in the area are named after British Prime Ministers and Members of Parliament.

The suburbs local schools are Millen P.S., Canning College, Curtin University and Santa Clara School.

Public Transport
The suburb nearest train station is Welshpool but also has multiple bus routes that go to the city or stop at the train station.

Growth
An emerging suburb with a track record of continual growth, many young couples and families are purchasing in the area to renovate older homes with large blocks. The proximity to the Perth CBD, only 7km, Victoria Park and its café strip, Curtin University, schools and shopping centres are a big draw card. This suburb is set to continue in growth and success being its perfectly located amongst these amenities. St James many years ago had run down housing with its old heritage however things have really changed in recent years as the area has quickly transformed to a very desirable suburb for living and investing. The area has a bright future being a key suburb to the city of Perth.
