Founded on the banks of the Swan River in 1829, there are few cities in the world that can match the beauty as well as the climate of Perth. Temperatures range from around 16 degrees in Winter to the mid 30’s in Summer, making it a paradise for outdoor activities and sports. With beaches just a short distance from the city as well as easy river access, water sports and boating are very popular.

As well as theatres and cinemas, there is a broad diversity of restaurants and night life in Perth with excellent representation of international, ethnic and gourmet cuisine to choose from. Regular train, bus and ferry transport services from the Central Business District provide easy access to other parts of the metropolitan area as well as popular restaurant and night spots such as Subiaco and Fremantle. The Central Business District itself is a Free Transit Zone with a free bus service (Central Area Transit – known as CAT buses) in operation from Monday to Friday 7.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. (the Blue CAT) and the Weekend CAT operating on Fridays from 6.00 p.m. to 1.00 a.m., Saturdays from 8.30 a.m. to 1.00 a.m. and Sundays from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Approximately one third of the drivers are bi-lingual, with many different languages spoken.

Many fine stores and boutiques may also be found in the traffic free shopping district of the city which is located close to the Perth Railway Station. The West Australian Art Gallery, Museum and Alexander Library are all located on the opposite side of the Perth Railway Station with traffic free zones providing pedestrian access as well as a calming courtyard with fountains for a quiet moment if desired.
