Suburb Profile - Como
The near-city riverside suburb of Como is ideally located slightly to the south of South Perth, and adjoins the banks of the Swan and Canning Rivers.
Como comprises approximately 6200 homes - population 12,500 - with a broad range of property types ranging from small investment units, through to modern “townhouse” style accommodation and family homes on large blocks of land.
Several public and private schools are located nearby, including Como Secondary College, Penrhos Ladies College, Aquinas College and Wesley College. There are several local primary schools and Curtin University is located in nearby Bentley.
There are several large recreational reserves within the suburb and the popular Preston Street Village provides shopping convenience, and a burgeoning café strip. The popular Mends Street and Angelo Street shopping and restaurant precincts of South Perth are just a few minutes away.
There is quick access into the City via Labouchere Road and Kwinana Freeway, and public transport to both Perth and Fremantle is readily available.
The suburb of Como was originally made up of three land grants, purchased by Christchurch farmer Edmund Hugh Comer in February 1891. The land was subdivided in 1905 under the name Como Estate, which is thought to be derived from either the owner's surname or the area of the same name in northern Italy.
Governed by the South Perth City Council, Como really is a very convenient and desirable suburb to make your home!
